Sing Stars: a summer course for young singers
Not every young person wants to play an instrument, but almost anyone can sing. We added a singers' course to an existing summer rock school, with funded places and food, ending in a live performance.

What we did
In spring 2026 Future Sounds, Red Butler Music School (RBMS) and a specialist vocal tutor designed Sing Stars masterclasses to run alongside RBMS's summer Rock School at Uckfield College Music Hub. Three courses ran in August 2026: a five-day course (7 to 11 August) and two three-day themed courses (19 to 21 and 26 to 28 August). Singers worked in small groups on vocal technique and their own arrangements, shared breaks and lunch with the young people in the Rock School bands, and performed live alongside them. RBMS ran marketing and the venue. Beautiful Noise funded three places on each course, with food included, for young people who meet its criteria.
Why
Holiday music courses locally were built around instruments and bands, and not every young person wants to play an instrument or believes they could. Far more people can sing. Sing Stars was designed to widen the appeal of holiday music to those young people. Rather than build something separate, we added to a course that already existed, which kept costs and risk low and put singers and instrumentalists in the same room. Funded places, with food, meant cost was not a barrier for the young people Beautiful Noise supports. It shows how Future Sounds works: find a gap, find partners who already have most of the pieces, and fund the part that is missing.
Impact
All three courses ran, and each ended with the singers performing live alongside the Rock School bands. Nine young people took part, three on each course, and every place was funded by Beautiful Noise, with food included. Young people who might never have signed up for an instrument course spent their summer making music with others their age.
